Burk, Emily (2025): Antikenrezeption im aktuellen Jugend-/Erwachse-nenroman am Beispiel des Persephone-Mythos. Ars docendi, 24, settembre 2025.
Since the publication of the „Percy Jackson“ novels and Madeline Millers retellings, ancient myths have enjoyed increasing popularity among readers. The Persephone myth seems particularly flexible and open to interpretation for a retelling with transformative elements. In addition, this myth seems to appeal particularly to the target audience: The coming of age of the character Persephone fits the pattern of young adult and new adult novels. For example, the myth can be used to explore themes such as breaking away from one's mother/parents. The character Hades also corresponds to the typical portrayal of a villain in dark romance novels, providing a template for an interpretation in this direction.
