Pietro Nicodemo Fiorini teaches at the Liceo Lavinia Mondin in Verona. In the following, based on his final thesis at the university, he attempts to analyse the importance of reading longer passages of text in the initial study of Latin - above all with recourse to the long tradition of this in English-speaking countries.
