The fundamental question is whether counting errors is suitable for fulfilling the complex requirements of assessing translation performance. To answer this question, several didactics experts proposed the ‘Duisburg Model’ in 2017 as a competency-based concept for correcting class tests and exams. The discussions that took place in 2020-2023 resulted in five proposals for further development, which are the subject of this article.
